Broadband Lines up 38% in Past Year

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has released their semi-annual statistics report for the year June 30th, 2004. The report says there are 32.5 million broadband lines in the United States, a growth of 38% from the year before. DSL was up 49% to 11.4 million. Cable however still dominated with 18.6 million lines growing at 36%. However even with this impressive growth, the United States only ranks 13th in the world in broadband penetration. The FCC rationalizes that many Americans have broadband at work, so therefore don't need it at home.
