Can you imagine having a 30 inch monitor for your desktop? That's like enough space for 3 webpages at once.

Gaming on this monitor probably going to be tough though, I don't know if video cards and games are setup for that type of super high resolution.

If anyone buys this, please post your impressions first on here.

Why would anyone need a monitor this big? I mean DVDs probably won't look all that good scaled up to that crazy high resolution?

I guess if you work in graphics and photography it can be useful for workflows.

For games, it's too much.

That's pretty groovy. I can think of a good use for it.

As a software developer, when it come time to demo, it can be a pain getting people to gather round a small monitor. We generally use a projector, but when you've got to demo in an office full of PCs and nowhere to project people just have to gather round a monitor. If we had one of those however, problem solved.

I agree tho, generally too big. Might be nice for a living room Media Centre PC however.

This is really awesome news. I was seriously looking at the Apple 30 incher, but now we have this! Wow! With HDCP so ready for BlueRay via Vista. Hopefully this will be a LOT cheaper than the Apple.

Any word on pricing and availability?

Can't wait to get one...

sweetness...and it's not too big for gaming!!! you can never have too big when it comes to a monitor. If you have dual 7800gtx SLI setup you can run the resolution no problem!!

Judging by the specs, the 2405FPW has it beat with its input connectivity, and contrast ratio and brightness.

Though HDMI is cool feature to have, so is the 2560x1600 resolution.

I don't really care for the Video Inputs anyway. So the loss of them is no big deal for me.

HOWEVER today the price is announced and it is $2199. Yikes!!! I was hoping for $1499 or so...

I got my three 2405FPWs for only $800 each...

Talking

The price will eventually go down and with coupons that we will eventually get to use on this (up to 25% at times), this monitor will be a nice deal compared to the competition.

Even with the coupons it will still cost $1700-1800. That is way too much

I was hoping it would be a LOT cheaper than the Apple Cinema, which it is sadly not.

I hear that Samsung will announce a 30 incher any day now too...

By the way the response time is 14ms from white to black. So does this mean that it can only refresh 35.7 times a second from white to black and back to white??? The math being 28ms for a full cylce and 1000ms in one second.

Bought the 3007fpw, won't display 2560X1600

OK, so I go out and buy the monitor because it looked too cool. I needed SLI, in order to get that, I needed an SLI motherboard. Hehe, after clearing the purchase through the war department, I get an AMD64 3700+ (for now) on a Gigabyte SLI motherboard with 2 (TWO) BFG GeForce 7800GT OCs. 4GB RAM and get everything loaded, latest updates and drivers....

NVidia shows an option to set the resolution to 2560X1600, but it won't go. The highest I can get is 1280X800, exactly half. When I try to get 2560... The screen blanks until time out, much like if I were trying to change resolutions to one that wasn't supported. I cannot find anywhere on the Internet where someone else is having this problem....Get this, I bought 2 monitors..one for me one for my son, both are having the same problem and have the same hardware.

Has anyone been able to achieve this resolution?

DASH

I think in order to achieve the top resolution you need a video card that has Dual Link capability and the only ones that i know of are the 7800GTX and the 6800 ultra 512mb cards.

I'm envious of the setup, and of monitor, and the fact you bought two of them, well I wish I had that much cash burning a hole in my pocket, but I don't envy the problem. I did read that the Nvidia had trouble with BIG res a while ago, so you might want to try the latest beta drivers.

Also, does that card have dual link DVI? You need that, and I didn't think they made a 7800GT with it.

Edit: Damn, TAI beat me to it! :P

Possible Solution

OK, my tech loving friends get this. The 30" Dell 3007fpw doesn't require SLI, it requires a DVI-D CABLE. Who'da thunk it. I will try this out tonight if I can find this cable type.

Fair enough... you need to try one of those moster DVI-D cables!

To get 2560x1600 you need a Dual Link Video Card.

As far as I know ONLY the eVGA 7800GT and 7800GTX support Dual Link, apart from the super expensive Quadros.

ATI also has many cards that have Dual Link.

But for NVidia non-Quadros, it has to be eVGA!

That really is a bummer that you didn't get a dual-link videocard. Be sure to ask the smart First Adopters on here in the future if you ever aren't sure about compatibility.

Maybe you can get a refund and buy the right video cards? Chew the reps at Dell out for selling you cards that don't work with their monitors.

the 512MB 6800 Ultras were also dual-link cards.

/agree with you on eVGA cards....i have 2 eVGA 256mb 6800 ultras in SLI in my gaming rig.
