"Batman Begins" different storlyline than 1989 "Batman"?

I dont read the comic books but in the 1989 Batman, Bruce Wayne's parents are killed by an unknown killer.

In Batman Begins, the police find the killer of his parents and someone shoots him . . .(i assume he doesnt die, because he is supposed to be The Joker according to the 1989 film.)

I have heard that the reason he doesnt die is because he had his "lucky deck" with him which stopped the bullet. The joker card in his "lucky deck" becomes the calling card of The Joker.

The "lucky deck" is mentioned in the 1989 Batman . . .

Anyone have any thoughts as to why they changed the story, or actually know the true storyline from the comics?

Or does the comic's storyline change as well? . . .

Batman Begins storyline is taken from the series of Graphic Novels, whereas the other movies, or at least the first two Tim Burton ones were taken from the comic book series, so there will be some discrepancies between the two.

Ah, thank you. I also heard that the 1989 Batman was not entirely true to the comics. I heard that in the comics, The Joker was never implied as being the killer of his parents. That detail was added to the movie to thicken the plot. . .

Do you know if this is true?

- Christian Bale makes a great batman. He was also great in Equilibrium.
- I love the back story. You really get to know the batman character and what drives him. Great character driven story. The script/writing was excellent for the most part.
- I really like the context of how he acquires all those wonderful toys.
- A good balance between time spent on the back story and his life as a super hero.
- Action is pretty good. Some the fight scenes the camera is pushed in too close so it's kind of hard to follow.
- All the supporting actors did a good job too. Katie's part was pretty small.
