Using DVI with your Dell 2005FPW?

Hello,

In my quest to find answers, I'm wondering if you guys are using DVI with your Dell 2005FPW LCDs, and what your video cards are.

My situation is that my video card only supposedly supports 1600x1200 resolution through the DVI port. This is just a little short of the optimal 1680x1050 resolution of the Dell 2005FPW. My card is a PNY Verto ti4600, and fact-finding has shown that even newer Geforce 6600 cards support 1600x1200 through the DVI. Are you guys having success with 'older' video cards and the DVI on your 2005FPW's?

I've used both 6600GT(AGP) and 9800Pro cards at 1680x1050, using DVI with no problems.

Hope that helps... Warren.

I'm using a Radeon 9500 and after the 2nd reboot it added the 1680x1050. Try the latest drivers if you haven't already.

My monitor is paired with a new Dell 8400/Nvida 6800 card and it booted to the 1680 X 1050 through DVI with no problem and great results.

Apparently 1680x1050 is not effectively higher than the 1600x1200 'limit' as many are not having problems with using DVI with older cards (gf4 ti4200, 4600, etc). That, or the 'limit' is a soft limit, not a hard limit.

Would be good if you post the manufacturer of your video cards, if you know the maker. I'm taking some comfort in the fact that my card was a pretty high-end model in its day and it has a decent SI TDMS transmitter onboard.

Thanks for your input so far

Makes sense since 16x12 requires much higher bandwidth than 16x10. I saw reports ppl use DVI even with 19x12 screens w/o any problem.

For additional info about how DVI works, tomshardware has a pretty good review - http://graphics.tomshardware.com/gra...129/index.html
