PlayStation3 To Use Blu-Ray Disc Format

PS3 will use the Blu-Ray disc format allowing for HD movie playback and more space for game developers. The Blu-Ray read-only specification will also be able to play standard DVD's and existing PS2 games. PS3 is expected to be out in March '05. Article here.

i think you misunderstood a bit:

Video playback units based on the new read-only standard are expected to appear by the end of the current fiscal year, which runs through to March 2005 - the same timescale in which Sony plans to unveil the PlayStation 3 in public for the first time.

to me, that means they will officially announce it, and show off what the hardware will look like, some game demos, etc... but it wouldn't be out till probably summer. I'm sure that they will want to still have some surprises left for E3 in May, especially considering that Nintendo has already announced it will unveil it's next console at E3, and Microsoft is reportedly planning on doing the same for Xbox 2.
