Same here. I'm drooling over the Panasonic 42" EDTV plasma, but can't rationalize spending $3000-4000 on a TV.

Tai,

That's a pretty dang sweet system. Playing console games must be awesome on it.

Thanks, rendition! It was mostly blood money (i bought the gear right after i got back from a deployment in 2002)...right now I'm playing a lot of Tiger Woods 2004 on my Xbox, and it looks and sounds sweet. I'm hoping to upgrade to a Toshiba DLP projection tv here in the near future. Those baby's are awesome!!!

I'm salivating to upgrade my cheap Yamaha receiver to a nicer Cambridge Audio or Creek integrated amp.

Every since I got my Sennheiser HD600 headphones and a subscription to Stereophile, I'm becoming an audiophile snob in my tastes. hehe

I would normally be hesitant to post my stuff on a Home Theater forum in case the snobs would put me down. But all you seem to be gentlemen here. My stuff is middle of the road and I'm happy with it:

65" Toshiba Projection HDTV
Philips DVD793C Progressive Scan Changer
Yamaha HTR-5560 6.1 Receiver
Front L&R Spkrs: Bose AM5 with Subwoofer
Front Center: JBL S-Center
Rear L&R Spkrs: JBL N24-II
Rear Center: JBL N-Center
LFE Subwoofer: JBL PB12 250 Watt
Custom Oak Entertainment Center my son made for me.

Damn, that's a pretty sweet system you got there...really nice living room you got it in, too!!! I unfortunately have an apartment, so I can't use my gear to it's full potential. I will have a house hopefully soon, so I can actually crank up the sound on the movies!!!

btw, i noticed that your front L&R speakers are different from the rest of your speakers....have you noticed a difference in the sound due to the speakers not being voice-matched? Just curious, cuz I've always heard that it is a no-no, but never experienced it for myself. I always suspected it was kinda hogwash to try to get you to buy a full set of speakers.

I read all about voice matching before I put my system together. I imagine there is some truth to it, but probably not as much as purists would have us believe. I think mainly you want to avoid mixing bright speakers with subdued speakers. In my system, I can't hear the difference, so they match well enough. I went that route to save money because I already had the Bose speakers from my older stereo system. I'm very pleased with how my system sounds and that's what counts to me.

It's nice to be able to crank the sound since I live in a house that's not too close to the next neighbor. I remember living in an apartment many years ago when I was first married. I could never get the stereo past a whisper before the neighbor would bang on the wall. That sucked.

Duke Ellington once said, if it sounds good... it IS good!

I can totally relate to the apartment thing, it's my current rationalization for not spending wads of money for a better stereo system. Althought this rationalization, let's me buy better headphone geer though. :)

I can't wait till I get my own house.

when i actually purchased all the equipment, i was living in a house in virginia, where housing is dirt cheap. Then i moved to san diego, where housing is rape-me-in-the-a** expensive, and I could not afford to rent a house anymore...booo.

I know what you mean about San Diego! That's where I live, too (Escondido, to be exact). It's just freakin' awful what real estate costs here!

cool. i live in the rancho bernardo area (closer to poway), but i'm moving in a couple of weeks down to the Paradise Hills area. Closer to work, and I'll have a roommate, so it will be a lot cheaper for me.

Meh, my setup is just decent. 36inch Sony Wega, Xbox, PS2, GC, DC, a Sony shelf stereo (not flashy, gets the job done), and for some reason I have two VCRs.

To be honest the TV is mostly just a monitor for my videogames and DVDs.

Just to keep you all in the loop. I'm going audiophile crazy these days with my subscription to Stereophile. Just in the last few months I bought Sennheiser HD600 headphones, Phillips 963 SACD/DVD player.... now

I'm looking at Triangle Titus Speakers and either a nice receiver (looking at Panasonic digital XR50, NAD T74x, Marantz 5400) or a really nice integrated amp like a Creek 5350SE or Carin 4808 or a lowerend Cambridge Audio 640.

I'm going nutz.

But gotta say, Waltz for Debby on SACD Bill Evans.. is pure HEAVEN.

Anyone upgrade their A/V system of late?
