Logitech has come out with a new line of mice. This is a GREAT laser mouse for the price.
- It uses 2xAA batteries (no proprietary batteries yeah!)
- the usb receiver is TINY! (smaller than my logitech notebook wireless mouse.)
- all the usual buttons work fine in firefox (forward/back). Scroll wheel has the notches. It also has tilt but that requries their drivers but everything else works fine with no drivers installed.
- batter indicator
- auto turns on/off with your computer. This works great even without drivers.
- there is a manual power switch underneath. Tap to display battery level, hold to turn on/off.
- has volume +/-/mute which work with NO drivers
- has indicator lights for email/IM (only works with microsoft crap). Worthless feature IMO.
- tracks great even on my couch. there's a BIG difference between this mouse and my mx510.
- very comfortable shape. If you like the shape of the other mx line (500,510,518,700) you will like this mouse.

This is a great laser mouse for $40

Logitech is also about to release a new notebook wireless mouse:

I recently bought the Logitech MX3000 Laser and as far as I know there are no particular differences between 3000 and 3100, also they cost the same.

Anyway, I've had this mouse and keyboard since last Friday and I just CANNOT get used to this mouse. It's slow, doesn't "react" right away after being idle so to speak for a couple of minutes. I have to move the mouse maybe a few times before it wakes up and I can start using it. It is also completely worthless in games. Or let me rephrase that: It's impossible to use in games, even in chess games. I play chess online and already I've made a bunch of mouse slips because the pointer doesn't move nearly as exact and easy as my previous optical mouse. There's no question in my mind that laser mice suck big-time! I can also mention that I bought the MX1000 laser mouse once too and it sucked! I should've learned my lesson instead of wasting money on this worthless setup.

that's odd. I use nothing but logitech mice for gaming (mix of wired and wireless) and never had any issues over the past few years. I play a lot of twitch fps games like counter strike which is a bit more demanding than umm chess. I wonder if you have some sort of massive radio interference in your area or something.

Well, in the heat of the moment I probably exaggerated somewhat in my previous post. I did buy the MX1000 mouse when it came out and as I said, I just didn't like it. There's a clear difference between optical mice and laser mice. It always takes some time to get used to new hardware. But this mouse really took a long time to get used to, and I'm still working on it. Of course I've experienced it before with boards and mice, but so far I don't think it's ever taken over a week...

Anyway, I had a Microsoft board and mouse (optical) and I really liked them a lot, but after two years of heavy use you get kind of tired and want something new and fresh so to speak, so I decided to buy the Logitech solution.

I uninstalled and then reinstalled the drivers to see if there would be a difference. One thing that bothers me a bit is that under "Startup" there's a driver named Logitech Setpoint and it loads up everytime with Windows. Normally you want to have as few processes as possible in order to speed things up a little bit, but this driver, if removed from Startup, won't load and the settings on the keyboards won't work. In other words, it is safe to remove at the cost of some annoyance.
