I'm looking for a new laptop. It has to be 64-bit. I'd like a Turion based machine - and idealy I'd like one with the MT40 (2.2Ghz 25W) variant of the processor.

Alas I have yet to see many solutions that meet my criteria. Does anybody know where I should be looking?

The closest I have found is VoodooPC's a:228:

which seems very similar to the MSI Megabook S270:

Has anybody on here used VoodooPC? What are they like?

I've also browsed the HP, Fujitsu Siemens and Acer offerings. HP don't seem to be able to supply the 2.2Ghz variant, Fujitsu Siemens only want to play with the budget student market - hence 1.6Ghz processors, and Acer insist on plastering their offing with Ferrari logos (http://www.acer.co.uk/acereuro/page4.do?dau22.oid=10477&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=17&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&crc=3887355547), which is all very well - but I don't think I'll get taken seriously round the office (and I'd ideally like a <2KG unit this time around).

So does all this make the Voodoo the one to go for? Should I perhaps forget the Turion for now, and go for a Mobile Athlon? The problem is - I don't really want a desktop replacement. The Voodoo is ideal in terms of size, weight & spec - but I know little about the company - and I'm quite concerned that I'm not going to be able to get the accessories I've become acustomed to (port replicators etc.).

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

with the Voodoo, you are going to pay out your arse, but they do make damn fine machines. I would love to have on of their top of the line desktops.

i would also really like one of those acer ferrari ones, but that's just cuz i'm a big fan of Ferrari and that would be the closest I'll ever be to being a Ferrari owner!!!

I have never used a Voodoo, but i'm very impressed with the company and their customer service. A few years ago I was seriously considering buying one of their desktop machines and their staff was very helpful, and I even got a personal email from Rahul Sood (the founder and CEO) telling me to feel free to email him if I had any questions. I ended up not buying one only because I prefer to build them myself. I've said many times that if I ever bought a pre-built system, the only company I would consider is Voodoo.

Thanks - it's good to know that Voodoo are good to deal with. I actually settled in the end on a HP-Compaq nx6125. It's a sight cheaper than the Voodoo and the Acer - although I've had to back down on the processor spec for now. What I intend on doing is upgrading the processor myself, and I've just ordered a 2GB RAM upgrade.

One note on the HP - the screen is just not up to scratch for every day use... it seems to have a grainy effect - almost as though someone took a screenshot and then saved it as a jpeg. I don't know if this is because of some anti-glare filter overlaying the screen?? - Oh, and one other thing - the docking station I bought with it has a DVI port (good) but it doesn't work (bad). Anyone have any experience with HP docking station DVI ports not working?
