Bill Gates announced that the Xbox 360 will incorporate HD-DVD technology, but it won't be ready for launch. This is a Huge mistake on M$'s part. The launch units will only have regular DVD drives and when the HD-DVD is ready, then they will incorporate it. Where does that leave all the people who will buy it when it's first released? Unless there will be some sort of trade in program to swap out the old dvd drives with the new HD-DVD drives, i guess i'll be waiting until the HD-DVD equipped units to be released, and I'd imagine that a LOT of other people will do the same, which will seriously hurt initial sales.

This makes no sense. No-one is going to release HD-DVD capable games, however I guess longer term it will let Xbox360 users play HD-DVD movies.

I HIGHLY doubt that M$ wouldn't do something about the people that buy them at launch...maybe it will be user-swapable like a regular computer?

I'm in agreement with you...It's got to be something that MS has planned on. I don't think the games will be HD-DVD apparently, but perhaps they want people to be able to watch the HD-DVD movies...It would be a really bad move to release it without the capability knowing that the future games would be unplayable...Almost like having an older completely different game system rather than just an earlier revision.
