So I finally hooked up the 2405 to a DVD player and an X-Box and am sorely dissapointed. While the X-Box was somewhat palatable, the DVD quality through the composite input is horrendous. Very pixelated, washed out colors, and overall just bad. Even when using 1:1 scaling, there is some huge wide pixelation. Is this normal?

Has anyone had any similar experiences? Any suggestions? I'm really thinking of returning this otherwise great monitor as it was meant to be used for video at least 50% of the time.

My 2005 is worlds better then this.

I too am in a similar situation. I purchased this display with the intention of using it for watching movies. I hooked up a Panasonic DVD player through the Component inputs and I was not impressed to say the least. After some reasearch I have come across a setup that has left me as satisfied as I can be with this display. Here is what I did and perhaps it will help you some:

Zoom Player v4.51
ffdshow latest august 3rd build
dscaler 5.006

Together these 3 pieces of software helped me realize this monitor is quite good for watching movies. I have the DVDs upscalled to 1920x1080 and they look mighty good. From what I have read in various forums, this monitor only really looks good with the DVI input, which is what I am using. The only thing I still am concerned about is finding the most optimal color settings for movie viewing. If I find out, I will detail them here for you as well.

Intel P4 3.0C GHz
1GB Corsair
2x 74GB Raptors
1x 300GB Maxtor 10
Audigy2 ZS
Nvidia 6800 GT AGP
Windows XP Pro w/ SP2

mazaev - am I to understand that you own a 2005 and a 2405. If so, is it worth the extra for the 2405 in your opinion? I'm not interested in watching DVDs or playing XBOX on it - I just wanna use it for coding, but I can't work out if I should be paying out the extra required for the 2405. What is your opinion? Furthermore - should I get a 2001FP and be done with this widescreen stuff?

dotcomslashnet - I had the oppertunity to use this monitor for coding for the last part of this spring school term, and i can tell you it is worth the extra for a widescreen display. Often times you do only read about people using it primarily for play, but for work I definetly found myself more productive with it. I could have multiple telnet terminals open, along with Visual Studio .Net and msn messenger windows open all comfortably with the 1920x1200 resolution. The font is easy to read and it is easy to have your windows laid out in such a way that you almost never have to minimize to find space for something you suddenly need access to. Widescreen is the future, and trust me, I had a really nice 19 inch display and I remember when getting that I thought I didn't need anything larger, how simple was I now that I think back :)

I own a 2005fpw myself. Got the 2405 for a friend of mine. Personally, I'd basically go with what the reply above mine said, except that you might consider that you can get 2 2005fpw's for the price of one 2405.

Well, I thought long and hard about this and eventually decided that I would go with the 2005FPW. As much as I would have liked the larger one, I really couldn't justify the extra expense (or convince my wife), and as Mazaev says - I could always buy another one (eventually).

I was in the same situation. I wanted the extra 4", but at the price couldn't convince myself. When I win the lottery I'll have a 2405 and two 2005's, but until then I love my 2005!

I have the 2405, and it's worth it if you can find a good deal on it. I was able to get it for free, and even make money once I sold my 2001FP...Which I sadly spent $600 on :( I miss that monitor because I had waited so long and agonized over the decision to get it, but the 2405 is beautiful and it's true...I can have visual studio.net open + MANY others and still be working comfortably!

I was lucky...one of my clients needed a machine when the Dell 9100+Free2045 came around, and I took advantage and gave him a 19" I had still in the box from a previous deal with another client.

since there are dvd players out there with DVI outputs, could you plug one of those directly into a computer monitor with the DVI? would it even work? Just a random thought i had while reading this thread.

Hey guys. First timer...

I ordered the 24" and was wondering how games play on it?

Im planing on using the DVi port with my 6800GT for FPS and RTS mainly.

Im also geting a XBox 360 in November and was planing to conect it using the VGA cable (MS are releasing) to this monitor.

Whats the VGA pic like?

Thanks.

If it's anything like the 2001FP it's going to be awesome for games.

For console stuff, my 2001FP was kind of crappy when I hooked my Xbox and Gamecube to it, but it might be better with the VGA adapter.
