Hi,
I have received my new 2405 LCD screen and when Windows XP starts up and shows the login screen (where you have to click your name to enter XP), there is a brigher, circular area in the upper left corner of the screen, about 2 inches in diameter (like a "sunshine"). Is that how the splash screen is or is there something wrong with my monitor? I have not spotted that lighter area when going past the splash screen. It seems it's only visible on that particular shade of light blue shown on the splash screen.
Thanks for any input you may have.
Nicolas.

That is just how the splash screen is........8)
BTW....How is your brightness??
I have one and this thing is burning out my retinas.
Brightness is on 0 too!!
Most everyone has it turned down to 0 because of this.
So close to tossing it out the window.
turning down the Brightness in the nVidia Control panel isn't a solution either cause it's not physically dimming the backlight. Just makes the colors dull.
I work at night a lot and never had these problems with my HP LCD's.

Hi Carbon,
thanks for your answer. That's good news! I did not know the splashscreen was like that...
My brightness is on 0 as well, first thing I did was set it to that level but it does not help much. You are right, this thing is bright. I am not sure how to deal with this now. I haven't tried to modify the settings of my ATI Radeon X850 card, I just unpacked the computer and screen and started to get familiar with them. I will try that in the next few days though.
Did you call Dell support to ask them if there was a fix for this, like a hidden menu? Most televisions have a service menu that only technicians are supposed to access to fix problems. Of course thanks to the web if you search on Google you might be able to find the code to access the menu of your TV, posted by some guy... I'm hoping there must be a service menu on the 2405 that would allow us to access hidden settings. Dell support will not give it to you because if you mess up, your warranty is void... We should try to see if somebody has posted the code to acccess that menu on another recent Dell LCD and see if it works on the 2405. I'm just hoping there is such a menu on that thing!
Thanks again,
Nicolas.

Yes there is a service menu. To access it press the MENU and + buttons while powering up the LCD. Then enter the MENU again and select FACTORY RESET. Under that menu you will see the service menu at the bottom left.
This is what most 2405 users have. It was calibrated using a Pantone Colorvision unit.
Brightness 27
Contrast N/A (not available in DVI)
Color: User Preset
Red 36
Green 33
Blue 32
nVidia Gamma Slider at 0.91
I also found this to be pretty good...
Brightness 15
Red 21
Green 20
Blue 12
nVidia Gamma Slider 0.81

just found the service menu on another site also..........8)
thanks for the tip!!
Unfortunately there is no setting for the Backlight/Brightness.........
DOH!!!
The closest thing is the GAIN, which I doubt does much besides a Global control for the RGB settings.
I never had a monitor that I had to adjust 10-12 times a day to get it to look right depending what time of day it is to stop it from hurting my eyes.....
I swear it changes by itself..........8)

Oh..........be carefull what you change in there.
I changed the Gm1602 Reg read//Write/ RAdd Value and all hell broke loose.
My monitor started going crazy.
then I turned it off and back on and then when I pressed my Menu button It said it was LOCKED and I couldn't access it.
DOH!!!
Then I found out that you have to hold the Menu button in for 15 sec to un-lock it on another forum.
Then I i was able to stumble slowly thru the messed up looking menu to finally get it back to normal.
Whew!!!!
