I'm looking into buying a new monitor and I have it down to these 2. I know the Dell is a little cheaper than the Viewsonic, but other than that which would you pick? It will be used for games. I wont watch movies on it so that is not an issue.

Thanks

Doesn't the Viewsonic use the same panel as the 2001FP?

Chris G,

Welcome to the board :)

The 2001FP and the Viewsonic VP201s both use the same panel and they both have the USB 2.0 hub; however, I don't know how many USB ports the Viewsonic has (the 2001FP has 4). With a 16ms response time, the 2001FP is great for gaming. Since both panels are the same, I assume the same can be said about the Viewsonic. One differentiating factor will probably be warranty/return...I don't know about Viewsonic but Dell gives you a 3-yr warranty and has a liberal return policy (you can return/replace the panel for any reason w/in 21 days of the date of shipping).

Hope this helps,

CAG

Thanks!

I think I'm leaning toward the Dell. But I have one question? If they are the same panel why is the Viewsonic "HD 720p" ready and the Dell is not?

Also, I read a review on the Viewsonic that says it runs the lower resolutions very good. The main game I play is NASCAR 2003. I don't run it at 1600 x 1200 so I can get better frame rates. I also am looking foward to play GTR (when it comes out). I've played the GTR demo and don't think I'll be able to run the game at 1600 x 1200. Am I going to be disappointed running these monitors at a lower resolution.

I'm running a AMD 2500XP Barton (O/C to 2600) and a ATI 9800pro AIW

Thanks.

I think being HD-ready is not a change in the panel so much as it is a change/modification in the panel's controller. My guess is that Dell doesn't ship an HD-ready 2001FP so that it sell more of its LCD TV's which are HD-ready. Moreover, I'm not sure how beneficial HD-ready would be on a panel that is not widescreen. As for lower resolutions, I've run games on resolutions less than 1600X1200 and they're fine. What you ought to do is get each monitor (you may be able to see the Viewsonic at a retail store) and keep the one you want.
