I bought it from Dr. Bott. It works well enough and makes it much more comfortable to work with the laptop on your lap for long periods of time. The sponge side is nice and soft and keeps your legs cool. Those laptops get VERY hot. The only down side is after about a year the glue that holds the sponge to the plastic starts to break down a bit so you might have to do some repairing.

Overall, a very simple, expensive, overpriced gadget that works great!

I also have one of these:

This is more for putting your laptop on a table than on your lap.

========================

I just picked up one of these:
http://www.laptopdesk.net/

I have the Laptop Desk v2.0 with the MouzPad attachement.

The good:
- lots of space. very roomy. it's the biggest out of the 3. The mouzpad works very well so when you are doing serious work and need a full size mouse but still want to work on your lap this is THE solution.
- very grippy. Most of the surface is covered in rubber. that laptop ain't moving.
- the shape promotes air flow
- folds in half so it's compact, thin, and easy to travel with
- also converts to use on a desk with adjustable angle. It's almost like a lapbottom and coolpad combined. almost...

the bad:
- no padding for your legs!!!! I guess to keep it thin and portable they left out the padding but this causes two problems. 1) after a couple of hours it gets a bit uncomfortable as the bottom of the pad does bite into your leg a bit. 2) doesn't completely isolate you from the heat. The heat actually begins to burn through a bit after long periods of time. the lapbottom is much more confortable and completely blocks out the heat.
- also expensive like the other products

summary:
- versatile but master of none. It's like like a lapbottom but adds the nice mouse pad feature but isn't as comfortable. It works well as a desk stand but doesn't swivel like the coolpad.
- if you must use a mouse then this might be a good option for you otherwise you will be better off with a lapbottom.

I just picked up one of these. This is my favorite right now.
- Uses 3m thinsulate to really block out the heat. It does the best job out of all of them.
- good size. bigger than lapbottom.
- using the rubber feat it grips really well, better usage angle, and helps keep the laptop cooler. The feat are just the right height.
- bottom completely covered in cloth. two cushions an the bottom with a gap in the middle to let your legs breathe. The cushions do compress for storage and travel. It's not quite as soft as lapbottom but it does keep your legs cooler. Very comfortable even after several hours.
- construction quality is very good. much better than lapbottom.
- Has a little velcro strap at the back to hold cables (like who actually uses a tethered laptop anymore).

Nice review, arogan. I have a Sager NP5660 and thought about getting the coolpad once but I never had any heating problems with the Sager. Of course, at ~12lbs, the Sager isn't anything you're going to keep on your lap very long no matter how cool you can keep it.
