Found this in my web wanderings http://forums.zonelabs.com/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=inst&message.id=13795 It seems that Zone Alarm v5 (Pro & freeware) which came out about a week ago causes numerous issues the worst of which (to me anyway) is that its not blocking traffic even when it indicates that it is. For more info, read the posts in the above link. If you want to go back to v4.5 go here http://www.zonelabs.com/store/support/zap/generalFAQs.jsp and look for the link under section "G". Also, the security site, wilders.org, rates firewalls and you can find a list of the best ones here http://www.wilders.org/firewalls.htm

I'm using Zone Alarm Version 5.0.590.015, the upgrade that I installed on 5/26, and it has blocked "0" access attempts since then. This is not good b/c I know from previous experience that I should have tons of access attempts by now.

I'm going back to v4.5 or installing one of the firewalls on the wilders.org list ;)

Eesh, I don't even use a firewall. Now I'm worried that people are messing with my PC.

If you're on a dial-up, it really isn't necesary. But on cable like I am, its a must have. :)

I had all sorts of problems with the latest Zone Alarm. It was causing numerous lockups that went away when I went back to the 4.5 version.

v5 wasn't causing any noticeable problems for me...I just don't think it was doing what it was supoosed to do.

I, too, use a switch/router with a hardware firewall. I quit using software firewalls several years ago because they all caused some sort of headache.

The most recent 5.x ZA is also buggy. So, I've finally switched everything over Kerio Personal Firewall.
