Anyone tried this game yet? Well, if you haven't, and you are into mmorpg's, you should. Even if you are not into mmorpgs (like me) You should consider this game. It is so much fun! The graphics are outstanding, especially at 1600x1200 on my 2001FP!!! The choices they give you for character creation are simply astounding. You could probably make over 1000 characters and have them all look completely different. Game play is very action oriented, and not really story based yet. The early missions are pretty easy, and the bad guys around the starting city area are fairly easy to beat. It is kinda annoying to have to do the tutorial every time you create a new character, but the upside is that you automatically get level 2 by finishing the tutorial, and it is really easy to do once you've done it a few times.
Another annoying aspect is the way they split up the game areas in order to combat lag. For instance, there is an area of the game called Atlas Park. Well, there are actually 3 Atlas Parks, all completely identical. The problem lies with trying to coordinate with your friends, you have to say "let's go to Atlas 2" or wherever you want to go. Not really that much of a problem, justs a minor annoyance, and it does help with the lag. I usually choose the last of the choices (e.g. Atlas 3) cuz i figure most peeps will just automatically choose the first available one. So far, i've really not experienced much lag with the game, even with the eye candy turned on. Oh yeah, did I mention that it looks totally sweet on the 2001FP????
Like is said before, i'm not much for mmorpg's. I tried EQ, hated it. Tried Ultima Online, didn't really care for it much; tried SWG, absolutely hated it (what a piece of garbage that game is, IMO), but City of Heroes has me completely hooked!!!!
They definitely did well in making the game easy for noobs, but still tough enough to keep the EverCrack players interested. Sorry this is such an informal review, but i've never really done a review for a game before.
All in all, so far I'd give this game an 8 out of 10 for its awesome gameplay, intuitive interface and amazing graphics. If anyone is playing this game, or is going to pick it up, you can usually find me on the Victory server playing as either CaptSmacktastic, TheGimp, or TacocaT. Hope to see some new heroes in the game!!!
