this is a frustrating and irritating problem:

i cannot run my new 2001fp @32 bit color depth at its native resolution with my geForce3 ti 500! i have searched through countless forums, and nvidia's and dell's pages without mention of anything even resembling this problem. 32 bit is available at every other resolution, and the problem is the same on both dvi and analog ports.

so i thought perhaps something had gone awry with my one day (!) old monitor. but i hooked up my aging latitude laptop, with aging gpu, to the analog port, and it handled this res and color depth w/out a problem.

nvidia's site and the actual driver .inf files list the geForce3 as capable of this res at this color depth. any geForce users with similar issues? perhaps i will try an earlier driver release.

thanks in advance...

Hi adsidera. Welcome to the forum. Someone at Dell's support board with a 2001FP and an nVidia card has a problem similar to yours. Here's the thread http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=33862 . I don't know that much about nVidia's line of cards but the posts in the thread seem to suggest that you ought to upgrade your card. Other than that, I would suggest that you contact Dell tech support.

Let us know how it turns out for you.

thanks so much for your prompt reply! i meant to place this in the 2001fp thread, but i was unable to delete it or move it.

i checked out the thread at dell, and someone claims it's a lack of memory on my vid card, which to me seems highly unlikely, if only because my laptop (ati rage128 i think w/32 mb) was able to do this resolution and depth - coupled with the fact that every other res works at 32bit.

i'll keep looking...

In addition to Dell's forum, you may want to go on nVidia's forum here http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/index.php? and see if anyone else is having a similar issue. It doesn't sound like a problem with the monitor but, if all else fails, contact Dell tech support.

thanks again for your input CAG.

i was about on the verge of just buying a new card, but there's always that last thing you didn't try. so i downloaded and installed beta forceware drivers (61.11 - i think) from 3dguru (i also saw them at neowin) and voila! an option appeared to override default settings...problem solved.
