On sale at Fry's for $379 (normally $600)

- portable air conditioner. It took me literally 1 min to setup.
- the ultimate computer upgrade. It cools the computer room. Typically with all pc's and servers running temps would rise about 10F more than the rest of the house. Now it's only around 3-4F.
- No water to empty. Moister is expelled along with the hot air out the tube through the window.
- Pricey! Window units are cheaper but this is so much quicker to setup or take down during the winter.
- 50 decibels. It kind of sounds like a loud refrigerator. It's not bad adding only a bit more noise over the pc's. It's a lot quieter than running large fans.
- comes with a 24hr timer, thermostat control, 2 fan speeds, dehumidifier mode, and fan only mode.
- 8500 btu
- didn't trip my breaker.

Wow.. seems like a good device to save money when you don't want to run the air conditioner for the whole house.

I recently got one of these also. Pretty much the same experience you've had with it.

We bought ours because we've made the garage into a den, now it's our main bedroom but there's very little cool air that comes in here as the house is insulated to normal housing standards and the garage of course wasn't. As a result when the main house is cooled down the garage-den-bedroom may or may not be and certainly isn't for long.

For informational purposes the den is roughly 15 by 15 (not measured, just eyeballed) and at low fan speed, middle cool it gets downright chilly in here with the door closed at night.

As a tech aside, my computer has a front face digital thermometer reading that reads overall case temp, it was hitting 96 degrees plus before we got the Delonghi PAC10, since then it's been running in the low 80's even during the heat of the day. That's a nice little difference.

Cheers,

I did the exact same thing in the room where I keep my three servers. (One dedicated to media, one for nightly back-ups and one LAMP server. All headless.) The three servers were cookin the room. So, I threw in a Portable Air Conditioner. Now you can enter the room without cooking your internal organs.
