Monk - give this show a chance, when I first saw the commericials, I poo-pooed it. But when I first saw an episode, I was on the floor laughing. Very good comedy.
Smallville - I'm starting to watch this Superman spin-off.

Las Vegas is my fav current show, and That 70's show is pretty damn funny. Plus anything that's on the History Channel, the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. Mail Call on History Channel is awesome. R. Lee Ermy is the shizz!!!
is this just current shows or fav of all time????
if we go all time fav shows, then i have to add these:
Family Guy
Simpsons
Seinfeld
Third Rock from the Sun
Tour of Duty

I guess we can open it to all-time too.
My all time favorite show was Sledgehammer. It was SOOO funny, about a cop who was oblivious to what was going on, kind of like naked gun.
"trust me I know what I'm doing" was a classic line from the show.

Is anyone watching Arrested Development? I love it - witty writing without fear of being un-PC (much like Family Guy) and an ongoing overall plotline to which all events are tied. More of a serial comedy as opposed to a typical sitcom.

Fav TV show ever has to be Northern Exposure. :D I'm still waiting for something to match it.
I don't think I have a current Fav. There's nothing I go out of my way to watch. I loved ER, but that lost it's appeal once Mark died and with Carter leaving it's just not going to be the same.
And sorry guys, but I've just not got the 24 thing.

It's been a few months since my last post, and we've now had a couple of months of House, and the first two episodes of Lost.
I have to admit I really like House. Hugh Laurie, House himself, was one of my favourite comedians whilst I was a kid, and it's nice to see him doing something like this. He's really good in it. A breath of fresh air! People don't realise he's a manic depressive either (weird for a comedian!). Apparently whilst filming he went and cried on his own between films. Poor fella!
I'm yet to be totally convinced by Lost. I've managed to predict most of the major storie lines in the first two episodes, but I've enjoyed them all the same, and I'm hoping for some more suprises in that. I hope it doesn't get too repetative, like Rendition said, too quickly. And is it just me, or has that hobbit grown quite substantially?!? :P

House is a great show. One of my fave new shows of last season. I also really enjoyed Numb3rs, which i'm happy to see is coming back for another season. considering it's one of the top rated shows on TV, and the fact that they won a few emmys, i'd say yes, they are making a 3rd season. I think they even showed a preview of next season at the end of the last episode here in the states.

I might have a new favorite on my list. I finally got around to watching the first episode of Justice. Anyone watching this one? If you are, don't say anything about the other 3 episodes that have aired, i haven't watched those yet (i love Tivo!) Anyway, It's a Bruckheimer production, so you kinda have to know it's gonna be good. I really like how they only show it from the Defense's perspective. You never see what the prosecution is up to, don't get to see the jury deliberation. Really makes you feel as you are part of the story. Plus at the end they are going to show what really happened, so you can see if the Defense was right or wrong. Nice touch, i think.. The intro sequence sucks, at least in the Pilot, haven't seen if it's changed in subsequent episodes yet.

Jericho and Heroes are my two new favorite shows with Heroes taking the lead. Vanished has been ok but the characters annoy me a bit and it tries too hard for the 24 crowd. It's just not the same without Bauer!

Chuck - pretty good geeky humor. That woman is seriously hot and needs to be contractually obligated to be in various states of undress at least twice per episode.
Bionic Woman - It was ok. Not horrible. Not sure how long it will last. You know putting more makeup on starbuck doesn't really help her look more like a woman, just more like a clown.
TAI, you are the second person who has now recommended Big Bang Theory for the geeky humor. I guess I'll have to give it a try.
Dirty Sexy Money - eh it was ok. I found it mildly interesting.

10-15-2007, 03:36 PM
Pushing Daisies - Great show, awesome writing, and Jim Dale (harry potter audio books) is the narrator.
Big Bang Theory - It started kind of weak but then grew on me. My wife thought it was really funny when the nerds were trying to mod Penny's home entertainment center furniture talking about cooling and adding fans and such. Eh hmmm I guess it hit a bit too close to home. It's definitely more math/science humor than tech/pc humor but still not bad.
Reaper - first episode was pretty good. I haven't watched the rest. I hear it goes kind of down hill since Kevin Smith didn't direct the other ones.
Journeyman - Only have seen the pilot so far. Ok I really like Moon Bloodgood (from daybreak) but overall I find the show pretty boring.
By far my favorite new shows are Chuck then Pushing Daisies. Bionic Woman is kind of growing on me filling that Alias void.
The Unit has been really good this season with at least 50% less woman banter and more ass kicking.

i've watched the first 2 episodes of Cavemen. It's ok....the Pilot wasn't really that funny, but 2nd episode was better. I think it actually loses something because there is no laugh track. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
- best new TV series in LONG time.
- production values are pretty darn good and captures the feel of T2 pretty well. It's pretty graphic and brutal for TV.
- Casting was pretty good. Lena Headey (you probably know her as the queen from 300) does a pretty good job as Sarah Connor. Summer Glau (firefly, the unit) also works well. Thomas Dekker(heroes) kept the whining and bitching to a bearable level as John Connor.
- The story is the usual mind bending time travel stuff that you would expect from the Terminator universe.

I downloaded the first episode for the Sarah Connor Chronicles on Xbox 360. It's a free download. I agree the production values are pretty amazing for TV, it's like a movie in terms of special effects. Good stuff. My only question is how they can get a good story arc going instead of every episode being an action sequence where John Connor runs away from the evil terminator.
arogan
01-19-2008, 11:38 AM
yeah that's my fear too. that it becomes a "monster of the week" type serial. I can see it getting old and repetitive. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Besides, it's not like there's a whole lot of other stuff to watch right now. Also, it's horribly inconsistent both internally and also against the terminator movies.

I went to the panels for Chuck and Fringe at Comic Con on Saturday. I'm really looking forward to the 2nd season of Chuck. The main cast was there, as was Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak (the show's creators). Very funny panel. Yvonne is very hot in person! Adam Baldwin probably got the most cheers, it was Comic Con after all and a Firefly alum will always be popular. Zach Levi (plays Chuck) even made a comment that Baldwin could be the only one there and talking gibberish and the room would be packed and he'd be getting cheers. After Chuck was the new JJ Abrams show called Fringe, so I stayed to check that one out. Definitely inspired by X-files and Twighlight Zone, but looks like it could be original enough not to be compared to those 2 shows. I plan on checking out the first couple episodes at least.

Life on Mars still pretty good. We are both still watching it.
I'm still watching Mentalist too though I don't think it's as good. It really depends on how much the main character's smugness bothers you.
My Own Worst Enemy - Hmmm I still hate Christian Slater. It was ok. The wife has already giving it a thumbs down. I might give it one more chance.
I've only watched the first two episodes of Fringe and it's a keeper for me.
Watched the first 2 episodes of Survivor Gabon. We stopped watching survivor a few seasons ago but decided to give it another try since this is the first time it's in HD. It does help quite a bit, and my 6 yr old loves the show.

My wife and I are a bit upset about Season 2 of Castle.
It seems like the producers are trying to dumb down the series to try to get more ratings. 1) more gratuitious skin and girls in bras for no reason 2) all 3 female actresses look paper thin vs. Season One. I bet they were told to lose weight. Instead they all look anemic. The female lead looked amazing last season, now she looks starved. 3) the plot-lines were fun, inventive, smart last season. This season they were just dumb and simple
Sigh. Maybe they just changed the writers too. So sad. Season 1 was sooo good.

I've been watching the forgotten, and I've been enjoying it so far. I'm sure it will probably get canceled, so i'm trying to not get too emotionally invested in it, but they've had some interesting story lines and it's a somewhat original idea. Instead of another police procedural show, this is people who step in when the cops run out of ideas and have to move to more pressing matters. The group goes around trying to put a name with a dead body and give the family and/or friends some closure.

What's your all-time favorite TV show?
I would say mine is Frasier. I still watch re-runs almost every week and laugh out loud every time I do so. Such good comedy.

for favorite of all time, that's tough. I'd probably have to go with Scrubs. Either that or Seinfeld.

I saw most of the pilot at Comic Con last summer, definitely looking forward to what they have in store.

I've been watching a lot of Monk on Netflix. About 9 episodes in the first season (there are EIGHT seasons).
I'm enjoying it a LOT. The writing and humor is very good.
