The iPod Mini is my first iPod. OK, I must comment on Apple’s packaging. I am always amazed at how pretty they package their items. It gets me all excited. So after opening it up and pulling out this little tiny thing, I was very impressed. One of the first things I did was put it up to a business card. Yep, it’s true! Like I said before, I’ve never really had an iPod before, so I can’t compare the feel of this one to the larger versions. What I can compare it to is my hand. After looking at a picture I took of it in my hand, it looks like I have a giant’s hand. It’s a bit smaller than my Nokia cell phone, which is pretty small itself. I decided to purchase the green one. From what I’ve read online, it seems to be the least favorite color. But that’s fine with me. I didn’t but the green one to “fit in.” Personally, I think the green looks awesome. Green is my favorite color, so that’s why I chose it.
After charging it for a couple of hours, installing the software, and downloading all of my music to the iPod Mini, I was ready to go. I had to do a few errands around town so I took the iPod Mini with me. I instantly put it in my pocket. After putting it in my pocket I couldn’t feel it at all. Its small size and light weight makes it perfect for carrying around. I can see why they advertise the armband attachment. Its perfect for it.
Now I wanted to actually use it. That means having to navigate through the menus. Apple’s design of the clickable scroll wheel is one of the major selling points. I had no trouble scrolling through the menus with ease. I had never used and iPod before, so I was curious to find out how hard it would be to use. It took me all of 2 seconds to figure it all out. The buttons are all intuitive. I had to problem with using it.
I would say my only complaint is the ear buds that came with my iPod Mini. They sound great, but feel too big. And they tend to get tugged out of my ear a lot. Its probably a user specific problem (meaning maybe someone else would do just fine), but it’s a big deal for me. I’ll probably go purchase some nicer ones later.
As for the size vs. price issue, I can say it was very much worth it. If you look at the market for 4 Gig mp3 players, you will find that the iPod Mini is a great deal. Its not meant to compete with the 15 Gig iPod. And personally, I only have a little more than 3.5 Gigs of music on my computer. And only 3 Gigs of that I want on my iPod Mini. So it suits me just fine.
After using my iPod Mini for a day, that “new” feeling hasn’t faded. I’m still excited about using it next week while I’m on campus at school. It should help me pass the time between classes.
And now for pics!
