Microsoft to Launch Anti-Virus Software

Microsoft has finally confirmed it will release a security service called "Windows OneCare" later this year for an annual subscription fee. It will include anti-virus, spyware, and firewall protection. Extra tools will also backup key data files and optimize your PC. I guess this means Symantec and McAfee are in deep doo-doo. Maybe this is the reason why Symantec is trying to fan the flames of Mac virus paranoia. They know the evil Empire is going to crush them on the Windows platform.

The Redmond, Washington-based software giant said it would initially distribute the service, called "Windows OneCare," among its employees this week and would offer a trial, or beta, service for PCs running Windows later this year. Users would pay a yearly subscription fee. In addition to providing anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall protection, Windows OneCare will include tools to keep PCs maintained for optimal performance and back up key data.
