Latest Info on Craigslist.org and Mr. Newmark

Craigslist.org is one of the world wide wonders of the internet. It keeps growing at 100% year over year and gets an amazing 8 million unique users and 2 billion page views every month. Not to shabby for a 10 year old website with an 18 person staff. It has now expanded to 105 cities and 23 countries, but still only charges for job listings.

The site gets more than 4 milllion classified ads and 1 million posts on its forum a month. Craig Newmark who started the site has handed over the reigns to another experience businessman. He is now focused on starting a new venture like the Oh My News Korean news site that relies on readers to write news articles to compete with mainstream media outlets.

Craig is one of the most revered internet entreprenuers. Here at FirstAdopter we salute the likes of him and Pierre who started eBay. Innovators like this make the net a much more cooler place to habitate.

Newmark still spends about half his 40-hour work week at the Craigslist headquarters, a Victorian storefront in San Francisco, filtering through e-mailed complaints of fraud and investigating potential scams. The vast majority are "bait and switch" scams and other frauds perpetrated by landlords and apartment brokers in New York, the site's largest source of rental listings after San Francisco.
