Internet Advertising Reaching New Heights

Thanks to the innovation of text-based paid search given to us by Goto.com (now Overture turned Yahoo), internet advertising soared to new heights in 2004. Ad revenue grew an astounding 33% to $10 billion, beating the previous bubble highs of the year 2000.

Companies are realizing that online is the way to go to reach the younger demographics and early adopters that influence big consumer trends (cough.. first adopter! cough). Auto-maker Lincoln Mercury spends 25% of their entire ad budget online. I bet the move toward the net will keep growing now. We are relentless, we will rule over all! Wu wu ha ha.

Figures from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers reveal that online ad income rose 33 percent last year over 2003 to reach some US$10 billion, topping and the previous revenue record in 2000 by nearly 20 percent. Fourth quarter revenues totaled a record $2.69 billion, marking the highest quarter ever reported. Search, classifieds, display and rich media all are growing at a steady rate, the report shows.
