ICANN Tax You Without You Knowing

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the international organization that oversees domain names, is trying to levy an additional 75 cent annual fee on .net domains. Moreover ICANN plans to raise the fee to other domain suffixes like .com and .biz. They want to use the extra money for: 1/3 develop country stakeholders, 1/3 security and stability, and 1/3 anything they want. Critics complain ICANN has no oversight from any government or entity and can use this stealth tax for wasteful projects. Verisign is fully supporting this fee increase, as the company maybe wants to win the favor of ICANN so it can renew its contract.
