Microsoft with $400M Deal for Internet TV Software

Microsoft and SBC announced a 10 year $400 million deal where SBC will use Microsoft’s TV internet protocol software platform for next-generation TV services over IP. This means SBC is going full force in the fiber to the home broadband strategy of offering TV channels over the internet. The company plans trials by mid-2005 and commercial availability by late 2005. In conjunction with Project Lightspeed where SBC is wiring 18 million households by 2007 with super high speed fiber to the home internet access. SBC is hoping with this fiber broadband link, you will use them for every digital service imaginable. From PVR, VOIP phone service, cable TV, and internet access, they want the whole kanoodle.
